What is NTP and How Does It Work?
NTP (Network Time Protocol) is a protocol used to synchronize the time across devices in a network, such as servers, routers, switches, and computers.
It ensures that all devices operate on the same accurate time, which is crucial for event logging, network security, and time-sensitive applications.

How Does NTP Work?
✅ Primary Time Source (Stratum 0):
• NTP connects to highly accurate time sources like atomic clocks or GPS, known as Stratum 0.

✅ Intermediate Servers (Stratum 1 & Stratum 2+):
Stratum 1: Servers that receive time directly from Stratum 0 and distribute it to other devices.
Stratum 2+: Additional servers that get time from Stratum 1 and pass it on to network devices.

✅ Time Synchronization:
Devices send requests to an NTP server, which responds with the correct time.
The device then adjusts its clock based on NTP’s precise algorithms to minimize any delay.

The Benefits of NTP.
✅ Consistent Time Across the Network:
Ensures all devices are synchronized, making event tracking and logging more accurate.
✅ Improves Security:
Prevents attacks that exploit time differences, such as replay attacks.
✅ Essential for Distributed Systems:
Critical for financial transactions, security logging, and industrial automation systems.
✅ Reduces Application Errors:
Prevents issues caused by time mismatches between connected systems.
